Hi Kevin
I'm not an engineer, rather a general safety practitioner. I have a
degree in Occ Health & Safety and a PGDip in Acoustics with
professional experience in Utilities (Water), M&E/Construction
(Building Services), and Manufacturing/Engineering.
I would love to find a route into the Oil/Gas sector (even at a
fairly junior level), however whilst I see plenty of jobs
advertised, they all require years of experience. From this I
conclude there is a shortage of skilled personnel, but will have to
wait for the employing companies (or their HR departments) to start
looking at candidates with transferrable skills. I'm able to
demonstrate an ability to adapt to new sectors and environments, so
if anyone has any ideas or suggestions I would be pleased to
receive them.
Currently, I'm a credit crunch refugee from the Steel Industry
sector, with time on my hands whilst looking for a new
position.

I'm currently finding out more about this course on Structural
Engineering (http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/engineering-in/mechanics-structures.aspx)
at Nottingham University and I'm very pleased with my future
choice. Everywhere I go for more info, people say they have amazing
facilities, including the Rolls-Royce Manufacturing UTC. I wonder
if anybody following this topic have done the course or being in
the Uni?
