Do you have a copy of "Principles of health & safety at work"
by Allan St john Holt? This was my text book when I did the Nebosh
Cert about 7 years ago.
Start with Health & Safety Management - get a copy of
HSG65 as well - you can download it from HSE's
website. There is a good flow chart of the process on page 9. There
are 6 elements in the flow chart, expand the elements, understand
what belongs where, for example under "Planning &
Implementation" comes Risk Assessment and Control.
The second part covers individual topics such as Electricity,
COSHH, Working at Heights and so on. A good Health & Safety
Management System must take into account the legal requirements and
we have regulations that cover all these topics. But in principle
they follow the same process Identify the Hazard, Assess &
Control Risk, Monitor Effectiveness, Audit System, Review.
Therefore it should be possible to map each hazard or regulation
onto the Health & Safety Management System flowchart. This will
help you put each of these topics into context and reinforce your
understanding of the Health & Safety Management System.
I hope this helps put it into context a little. If you would like
to discuss this further you can contact me via phone or email that
is on my profile page.
