In training, an employee qualifies to drive a 1000kg
counterbalance truck. In operations, I believe that this would
not suffice for a 16000kg counterbalance truck, am I right?
The training board is RTITB and as a practitioner I have said
that the driver is not competent to drive a 16000kg FLT without
additional training, as its like driving a car and then being
tasked with driving an HGV.
Please could someone direct me to the guidance on this?
Thanks.

Warren,
Barloworld or BT Rolatruck have information available on their
websites, as RTITB trainers, on what levels are allowable from
basic training.
When I was at Willerby, we had 40 or so FLT drivers on staff and
contract, and they were assessed from their previous licence
holdings and had to receive extra training to work on higher weight
trucks or on specific non standard tasks.
For precise up to date info, ring Nigel Williams - ex senior
trainer for Barloworld, now independant trainer - on 07592 100311 -
I'm sure that he can advise you on current standards.
Be gentle, he's recovering from heart surgery at the moment.
Mention my name and he'll know where the recommendation came from.
