About
I am currently attempting to secure my first overseas fire/ safety position particularly in North Africa or UAE but to be honest for my first position I would consider all most anywhere. Although I am sure it is not impossible as most people would have been in this position at one point. It appears to be that experience is everything, which is a real catch 22 for someone like me.
All that I am asking for is some friendly advice and help from some of the experiencend members in helping me achieve my goal.
I am currently employed as a Fire crew manager at Prestwick Int airport with various safety responsibilities and hold a compliment of industry fire service, first aid, managerial NEBOSH and IOSH health and safety qualifications with over 14 years fire fighting experience. Prestwick International Airport is one of the main airports servicing the West Coast of the UK. The facility has a large hydrocarbon fuel bulk storage and transportation (road & rail) depot with a high inventory of various hydrocarbon fuel and LPG (gas) products. The facility also has a large cargo and storage area which includes hazardous materials. Previous to this I also served as a mechanical engineer for over 5 years.
Although my current position is at an airport and not specifically at an oil production site there characteristics and fire risks are not a million miles apart. I do have a vast experience with large hydrocarbon storage facilities, pipelines and transportation of fuels, along with my experience of LPG storage units and my in depth knowledge of aircraft/ buildings fire and rescue I feel I could make the transition into the oil & gas industry with not to much difficulty.
I would be most appreciative indeed if anyone has any advice for me if they could get in touch. I know I may not have much to offer in return at the moment, but hopfully this will not always be the case.
