About
I am experienced Consultant Occupational Hygienist based in the NE of Scotland. I work mainly in the oil & gas industry but also have experience of manufacturing, construction and the education sectors.

by Mariza Ruas 5 months agoHi Richard,
Thanks again. Go self-employed would be great.
I will finish my NEBOSH first and then will take the next step.
I think at the moment an onshore role would be good to start with.
I will keep in touch if it is ok with you.
Best regards,
Mariza -
by Mariza Ruas 5 months agoHi Richard,
Thank you very much for your post ad wise advise. I have been checking Kevin's posts and I have also joined oilandgaspeople.com.
I am very keen in working offshore to gain experience as I have none.
I am currently doing my NEBOSH certificate and will seat for my exams next month.
I was a member of IOSH but at some point the meetings we changed to afternoons instead of evenings, so due to work commitments I was unable to attend.
I had a look at the GOSH website and I am considering joining it.
Thank you once again.
Best regards,
Mariza -

by Ravi narayan 7 months agohey Richard,
Thanks for your tip. When I saw previous questions papers and answers, they seem like sylabus oriented and for an 8 marks question, one half page answer is expected. The question can be direct on respective element of the igc 1 or 2. -

by Iyenoma Osazee 9 months agoRichard, I need your input of the main chemical contents of paint and their possible health effects on the users(workers who apply or use them them to work). There is the need to look at the short, medium and long time health effects. An appraisal of the possible mitigating approaches to reduce the effects aside from the conventional Personal Protective Equipment is required.
Please send your information/contributions directly to my e-mail address: iyenomaosazee@yahoo.com
Thanks in hope to read from you soon.

by David Horner 1 year agoHi Richard,
yes in my opinion IOSH / NEBOSH have created an academically bias elitist system that appears to gaining yet more momentum; IOSH all so put themselves forward now, as the world's largest professional health and safety organisation, but as yet have failed to translate any of their training material. As for their conference fees, well I have never been able to afford to attend an IOSH Conference! Something is wrong!
Regards DavidH

Richard Brown commented on Tornyie konne's wall:Temporary work or short term contracts to cover illness or gaps between recruitment are a common way to gain experience in the industry. It also allows employers to "try before they buy", to see your mettle so to speak. I hope I haven't been too ...

Richard Brown commented on Tornyie konne's wall:Tornyie I wouldn't say that you are wrong, but I was telling you the reality of the oil & gas industry. A couple of other points, offshore you will work 12 hour days (maybe 16 hour days) for between 14 and 21 days straight. I am a consultant ...
