by Richard Brown 1 year agoAir monitoring during flux cored arc welding. Note the position of the welder in the plume of smoke. Exposure was twice the WEL. He was using an air fed visor which provided good protection against the fume.

by Richard Brown 1 year agoWhile air fed visors are one of the best forms of respiratory protection, they are by no means "the best protection". Local exhaust ventilation systems provide better protection as they capture the fume at source and therefore prevent all worker exposure. However it is the nature of welling that these better alternatives are not always practical and in those circumstances, respiratory protection is needed.
