VerticalMan App checks the Man Down situation, allows to continuously monitor the posture of the worker. If the inclination exceeds an angle and it is maintained for a period of time, VerticalMan warns locally with a visual and an acoustic alarm and notifies it remotely (via SMS, web service, email, phone or VoIP call ).

The user has some seconds (configurable) to stop the alarm and prevent a wrong remote notification.

The Android device with VerticalMan must be worn on belt with an opportune case for the device.

The application also controls the worker’s immobility, the device’s battery charge and the connectivity availability for remote notifications.

The targets of this system are principally lone workers, who haven’t a colleague and who operate without continuous contact with other people.

As you may be aware the growing concern with regard to mental health is extremely high, both within the workplace and on a personal level.

Evidence suggests that 12.7% of absence can be contributed to mental health conditions. In 2017/18 the Health and Safety Executive released their annual stats showing 15.4 million lost work days through work related mental health. On average for each person suffering took 19.8 days off.

By not addressing mental health, companies are suffering detrimental losses with mental health issues costing employers around 35 billion every year. According to the Centre for Mental Health 21.2bn is in reduced productivity, 10.6bn in sickness absence and 3.1 in staff turnover. However, it is impossible to determine the exact statistics as many mental health issues go unreported.

The Health and Safety Executive also estimate that 20% of all accidents occur due to some form of mental health issue, such as stress, anxiety or mental fatigue. The impacts of these can be significant on health, reputation and financial cost.

With this in mind OSI are very happy to announce we are now able to offer Mental Health strategies these include but are not limited to, workshops, seminars, presentations, cognitive behavioural therapy, wellbeing sessions and techniques, accredited First Aid for Mental Health courses and assessment toolkits. Our Mental Health Strategies can significantly reduce costs, lost work rates, improve productivity and morale.

    BSIF – British Safety Industry Federation

    The British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF) is the lead association for the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Directive and is recognised as a Competent Authority by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE). The BSIF has active links with many government departments and over 130 representative Trade Bodies.

    Set up in 1994, the Federation currently has some 210 members, ranging from manufacturers and distributors of safety products through to test houses, certification bodies and safety professionals. Membership is accommodated within a number of sector trade associations.

    Today the BSIF is firmly established as the major independent voice of the British safety industry, helping to both influence legislation and provide industry in general with a source of authoritative information on a range of workplace safety issues, while representing the needs of its members.

    The Petzl research department in Crolles, France, integrates all the fields related to product design: mechanical, textile, electronic, optical, computing and prototyping.     In Crolles, Petzl has labs dedicated to testing verticality products and headlamps. They are complemented by testing in the field for ergonomics and reliability.
