How did you get started in the industry?
Originally I took a level 3 food safety course and became hooked and interested. What followed was an intensive 2 years of learning. Naturally it became part of my business and slowly began to take over.
Do you have a motto or saying that you live by?
“If you have a good workplace culture, the problems will sort themselves out”
Who or what inspires you?
Marco Pierre White with his philosophy and determination in work.
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
A varied selection of cured meats, Olives, Breads, cheeses, nibbles and sauces.
What advice would you give to someone looking to getting started in the industry?
Firstly, complete a level 3 & 4 in food safety. Secondly, understand that food safety is mostly a hypothesis based problem solving exercise. We can’t walk in with a pathogen lab in our bag and we can’t see bacteria or viruses with our naked eyes
How do you unwind and relax?
You will probably find me at bars enjoying music both listening and playing badly on the piano. Other than that I’m not relaxing as I’m travelling the country stressfully watching Mansfield Town Football Club.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
My endgame ambition is to run a national Food & Hospitality Academy. In 5 years I hope to have an Academy building (for learning) and have OFQUAL accreditation.
Would you recommend a career in the HSE industry?
If you love problem solving and thinking about very small details, absolutely.
