Oriental Delight, located on Second Way, Wembley Park, was penalised after an inspection by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) revealed three machines with unsafe conditions, including damaged interlocking safety devices and missing safety guards.
The company had previously received prohibition notices in 2016 and 2019 for similar issues. However, during a routine inspection by the HSE in October last year, the problems were still unresolved. On September 4, at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, Oriental Delight admitted to three violations of The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998. As a result, the company was fined £150,000 and ordered to pay £3,020 in costs.
HSE inspector Marcus Pope commented, “This case highlights the HSE’s firm stance on prosecuting serious health and safety breaches, particularly when previous warnings have been ignored. It underscores the importance of businesses ensuring that machinery hazards are effectively managed to minimise risks.”
