About the role

We are looking for a Senior Coordinator, Engineering Projects Safety to provide support, advice and coaching to the Labrador City and Sept-Îlesoperation on the Rio Tinto Safety Standards, Critical Risk Management, Risk Assessments, safety inspections and meetings and associated legal and other requirements.

Reporting to the Superintendent, Safety Operations at our Labrador City Operations, you will be:

  • ​Lead a team of Engineering Project Safety Coordinators that will be located in Labrador City & Sept-Îles
  • Provide advice and support to the area departments to ensure that operating and maintenance activities undertaken are designed, planned and carried out in accordance with Rio Tinto’s Safety Systems and comply with Provincial and Federal regulations
  • Support and promote adherence to the current H&S tools
  • Assist with safety investigations, coach leaders and advisors on how to prepare reports and recommendations,  implement corrective and preventative actions and share learnings with both sites
  • Monitor safety performance indicators to drive change in the workplace
  • Understand, promote and adhere to the HSEQ Management System , Rio Tinto HSE performance standards and IOC’s supporting procedures
  • Understand and ensure compliance with relevant statutory and legislative provisions and the Rio Tinto Safety Standards
  • Demonstrate an excellent understanding of the IOC risk assessment process, including hazard identification and implementation of controls
  • Coach area leaders in Risk Management
  • Assist in the development and update of safety policies, procedures and related documentation

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have

  • Technical Diploma in Health & Safety
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)
  • 10 years’ experience in a similar industrial setting, mining, processing, manufacturing or related setting
  • Bilingual in French and English
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • ​Training in incident investigation and analysis (eg, TapRoot, Essential Factors Analysis, etc)

Operating 418 kilometers of railroad that link mine to port, IOC exports pellet and concentrate to customers in North America, Europe and Asia.
