Seeking an EHS professional to support a Site EHS Manager in driving further site improvements in a good EHSQ environment for a complex, upper tier COMAH Chemicals site – this is an excellent opportunity offering scope, responsibility and development

An opportunity has arisen to recruit an EHS Specialist to assist and report to the Site EHS Manager for the established Manufacturing Site in Clitheroe, part of Johnson Matthey’s Efficient Natural Resources Division; it is a world class supplier of catalysts and catalytic processes to global markets and customers in the Oil, Gas and Chemicals industries. This is an important and successful site within the group, with a good EHS reputation, with ISO 9001, 14001 & OHSAS 18001 accreditations and a Zero harm target. It is undergoing a program of change and ever improving EHS performance. It is well-established site, with good unionised relations and a low turnover of staff; it runs 24-7 with continuous shifts, employing c200 people.

 

This varied role will involve many aspects, which include:

 

  • Advising, assisting and providing expertise to managers and their teams to comply with JM, site and legislative HSE policies and systems
  • Liaising with site personnel at all levels, external regulators and contractors on a day to day operational basis, requiring you to demonstrate initiative to maintain situational safe performance
  • Offering guidance on wide-ranging safety, health and environmental matters, including leading the site COMAH safety report and Environmental Permit activities (dependent on your experience to date)
  • Training, development, coaching and communication to enhance EHS operational awareness on site, being the lead EHS advisor for specialist safety programmes and projects, such as permit to work systems, PHR’s, occupational health, hazard studies, human factor analysis
  • Leading and assisting in site accident and incident investigations
  • Reviewing, analysing, investigating and reporting on EHS data and statistics (proven IT skills are important)  .

 

You will be a proactive candidate, with good interpersonal and communication skills, and the willingness to drive and uphold EHS best practice within your experience, using your ability to interact and influence people to maintain robust day to day HSE practices and policies.

You will hold an EHS NEBOSH qualification (or equivalent), (ideally be a Chartered member of IOSH, with a degree qualification in a Science, Engineering or an EHS related subject). Essentially you will have a number of years’ practical EHS experience gained in another site based role in a Chemicals or related industrial manufacturing environment with occupational health requirements. Past experience of COMAH compliance and safety reports would be highly beneficial, but is not essential for this role, as would knowledge of Environmental, REACH , permitting and waste management. (We are also open to hear from more senior EHS professionals with specific upper tier COMAH expertise.)
