We are seeking to recruit on behalf of our client a  SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY LEAD  who will be based in Qatar on a residential long term contract. Our client undertaking a transformation of the Corporate HSEQ function and are looking for Senior experienced HSEQ professionals who not only have solid discipline subject matter expertise but also the leadership and change management skills to help build a world class team. The Sustainable Development Strategy Lead will be accountable to help shape and deliver pragmatic corporate standards, guidance and improvement strategies in the field of Sustainable Development

Must have experience of working at Executive/Board level in an organisation and experience of developing and producing Sustainable Development Reports

  • To be able to hold the mirror up to the organisation and intervene with respect to help ensure the right choices are made
  • To be able to escalate critical HSE issues early to ensure the right level of engagement is taking place and  to help resolve dilemmas
  • To be able to provide clear direction and professional opinion in their own discipline in the absence of consensus or when others may disagree with their views
  • Understanding and empathy for the challenges of operational, engineering and project management line management positions


  • Develop pragmatic corporate standards, guidance and improvement strategies covering Sustainable Development in support of the aspirations of the company
  • Develop and support implementation of a Sustainable Development improvement plan including enhanced monitoring and reporting of proactive leading indicators
  • Develop and manage training and awareness campaigns to help leadership develop Directorate specific focused improvement programs
  • Provide subject matter expertise to support, coach and build the Sustainable Development discipline and wider HSEQ function
  • Manage expert consultancy resources developing and producing the annual Sustainable Development Report
  • Develop and lead knowledge transfer programs to enhance awareness and understanding of Sustainable Development in the context of the company Business strategy and aspirations.
  • Act with full independence in decision making at a corporate level
  • Act with full independence in facilitating senior and executive management engagement on Sustainable Development
  • Review and evaluate recommendations from Managers, Assistant Managers and Section Heads to help shape and develop optimum Sustainable Development improvement programs
  • Extensive collaboration and consultation with all company Directorates including operational, project and office based /corporate functions
  • Ability to project manage to tight deadlines
  • The successful candidate will need to personally deliver in their core discipline area as well as driving implementation by influencing decision makers and working with and through others

Experience/Qualifications Required

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a Science or Engineering Discipline
  • Extensively experience in Sustainable Development improvement programs focusing on leadership and organisational change 15+ years
  • Expert knowledge of Sustainable Development strategy development and organisational change management
  • Experience in corporate Sustainable Development monitoring and reporting
  • Demonstrable interpersonal skills (both in motivating employees and influencing stakeholders)
  • Proven leadership, communication project management and change management skills
