The National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA) is Australia’s independent expert regulator for health and safety, structural and well integrity and environmental management for offshore petroleum facilities and activities in Commonwealth waters.

We are currently seeking expressions of interest from experienced petroleum industry professionals, qualified in an offshore oil and gas industry discipline, to fill both current fixed-term vacancies and potential future positions within our Safety and Integrity Division at our Perth and Melbourne Offices.

The length of employment can vary and appointment can be made for up to an initial period of 18 months.

You will be responsible for assessing safety cases, well operations management plans and associated documents and inspecting offshore operations and supporting NOPSEMA’s investigations of accidents and incidents.  You will also provide specialist technical skills and advice to, and on behalf of, the Authority and represent NOPSEMA and engage with industry and other stakeholders.

We are looking to hear from candidates with substantial expertise and experience in one or more of the following disciplines:

  • Process engineering including LNG
  • Structural engineering
  • Drilling operations
  • Control and instrumentation
  • Mechanical engineering – offshore petrochemical facilities
  • Reliability engineering – predictive and proactive maintenance management in offshore petrochemical facilities
  • Marine operations associated with offshore petroleum facilities including FPSOs, MODUs and moored platforms
  • Asset integrity programs associated with ageing assets
  • Offshore construction, including subsea construction and pipelay
  • Pipeline engineering, design, construction, operation and integrity management of petroleum pipelines
  • Diving – offshore petroleum
  • Light well intervention
  • Well Integrity

We would like to hear from you if you have:

  • Proven ability to identify, analyse and diagnose problems in a logical and rational manner and demonstrate a creative approach to problem solving.
  • Previous experience in a regulatory/well integrity capacity, and/or experience in managing risk in a major hazard industry.
  • Proven experience in dealing with the safety case approach to safety regulation.
  • Extensive experience in a relevant industry particularly the offshore or downstream petroleum industry.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to negotiate and influence at all levels of management.
