Police were called to Liquid Leisure in Windsor on Saturday the 6th of August after an 11-year-old girl died after going missing at the water park. Despite members of the public who went into the water to try and find her, she wasn’t found for more than hour. The victim was rushed to hospital but later died. Thames Valley Police have said that her death is being treated as unexplained and an investigation has been launched.Superintendent Michael Greenwood said-
“This has been an extremely traumatic and upsetting incident for all involved.”
Several members of the public did attempt to find her in the lake but were unsuccessful. Superintendent Michael Greenwood continued by saying-
“I would like to commend them for their courage and bravery.”
An eyewitness who wished to remain anonymous said lifeguards and members of the public joined in the search-
“I later learnt that they were hoping she’d somehow managed to make it back to the shoreline and was in shock or passed out. They were asking all of us to shout her name, describing her as shoulder height on an adult, with shoulder-length brown hair. As the situation unfolded, with every minute that passed by you could see the rising panic amongst the onlookers.”
Those attempting to find the girl were joined by the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, Surrey Fire and Rescue Service and South Central Ambulance Service as well as the police. The National Police Air Service was also involved in the search, although it is not clear exactly where the girl was found.
The victim’s family have been informed and are being supported by the police.
