HSE People is proud to be working with a team of Champions to raise the profile of the HSE industry and to support our members. Today we speak with Monika Godo, Senior Back of House Supervisor at the Savoy Hotel, focusing on HSE.
What is your job title, where do you work and what do you do?
I am Senior Back of House Supervisor at the Savoy Hotel. Supervise, coordinate and participate in activities of stewards engaged in stewarding activities in all areas of the hotel. I am accountable for:
Standards are, maintained and all documentation pertaining to the standards are utilized in the shift. Carry out additional tasks or projects as instructed and by reasonable request from the leadership team.
Control the consumption of chemicals used in the different operative tasks and to train staff how to use them as well as to provide sufficient supplies of cleaning material
Fully aware and comply with all statutory requirements on health and safety and all aspects of the hotel’s Health and Safety Policy including COSHH, HACCP, RA’s across the Hotel not for a single department.
How did you get started in HSE?
Passionate about the role of ensuring the health and safety of all employees and visitors in the workplace. My initial occupation as a foreigner is necessary to be a qualified, knowledgeable HSE leader. I’ve experienced a few major H&S reckless injuries, and when I saw people losing abilities, I decided to study more and step in more everywhere I work.
Why did you want to become an HSE People Champion?
It is a privilege to learn from others, some things we can not learn from books. Also, looking forward to develop my knowledge. Become an active volunteer always make me more productive in this sense.
Who or what inspires you?
My mentor, who is inspired me to develop myself. Also, the experience I had with H&S injuries, made me to do everything is possible, even fight for it, for right and proper working environment.
What are you excited about for 2023?
I am 10 month in my workplace, and either they had a well organized documentation, always have a place for improvement, strategy or environment changes. One is done for 2022, in this year already few more project come.
