From the Health and Safety Executive: Experts in chemical risk assessment and socioeconomic analysis are invited to join new REACH Independent Scientific Expert Pool

The REACH Independent Scientific Expert Pool (RISEP) advise the Health and Safety Executive to assist in ensuring that the advice given to the UK government and devolved administrations is based on the highest quality and most recent scientific evidence.

They are seeking highly capable and motivated technical and scientific experts to provide independent insight, advice and knowledge as well as challenge and review.

Experts are required from the following scientific fields:

  • Environmental risk assessment;
  • Human health toxicology;
  • Human health exposure and control;
  • Chemistry/regulatory science;
  • Economics/impact assessment.

Appointments to RISEP are made strictly on merit by a fair and open process, taking account of equality and diversity.

Experts from RISEP are entitled to claim daily fees (£400 per day) for the time they spend on RISEP business. This covers any work undertaken, including preparation and attendance at meetings. All fees paid are taxable. Reasonable travel and subsistence costs are separately reimbursed on presentation of receipts, in accordance with HSE’s normal rules, up to a specified limit.

Candidates will be required to declare any interests that may be relevant to the work of RISEP, as well as political activities. Interests of appointed experts, along with their names will be published.

Interviews for shortlisted applicants will take place in April 2021 via videoconference. Candidates will be asked to elaborate on the qualities and experience specified in their application that demonstrate their suitability for appointment to the pool.
